Is your Arizona home ready for the triple digit heat? While summer is already here, we haven’t hit the worst of it, so there’s still some time to get your house weatherized, prepped, and ready for the summer sun. Oh, and the best part about weatherizing your home is this: it’s fast, easy, and it saves you money. Let’s start with our step-by-step how-to’s on getting summer-ready.
Getting your Arizona home ready for the heat is smart, easy, & fast.
Thankfully, getting your home ready for the heat is simple. In fact, there’s only a handful of things that need to be done.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is get your summer home maintenance done. Go ahead and replace your air conditioning filter, or if your HVAC professional is still there inspecting your A/C unit, they may even have the right filter in their truck, and they’ll happily help you replace it.
You see, when that filter gets clogged, it makes your A/C unit work a lot harder to push cool air through all the buildup on the filter. So while you may still be getting cool air, it’s costing you lots of extra money – and it’s pushing all that filthy air back into your house and lungs.
Oh – and when you replace the filter, make sure you replace it with the right size for your A/C unit. Using the wrong size filter only costs you extra money – and it doesn’t stop the filth from being recirculated through your home.
And weatherizing helps you keep out uninvited guests!
Once your filter is changed, let’s make sure you’re not letting in any unwanted guests this summer. Which guests? Well, now that the weather has warmed up, all of the creepy crawlies, snakes, spiders, and scorpions are out in full force.
Make sure you aren’t unintentionally inviting them into your Arizona home. Check that any cracks are filled, pipes that lead into your home are sealed adequately, and that you’ve called your favorite pest control company. You’ll also want to check weather stripping, screen doors, and window screens. That way, you won’t be surprised by a stinger in your shoe. (Although, we always recommend checking your shoes before you put them on. Especially if you’ve left them outside. Some surprises aren’t any fun.)
Oh – and did we mention this saves you money?
Weatherizing your home is more than just smart – it’s also the economical choice. Replacing an A/C filter may cost you a few dollars to buy the new filter – but it could save you years of wear and tear on your unit – and your lungs.
Finally, take a look at upgrading your home to energy star rated devices. They’ll save you time, energy, and money. And right now, SRP is offering a wide variety of rebates. There are even some rebates for $800 on a new A/C system or 2 free shade trees! Or, if you’re on APS, here’s the link to their available rebates.
Just because we live in the desert doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy beautiful Arizona in comfort. So get your home ready, save some money, and enjoy your summer in style.
