Earth Day is observed every April – April 22, to be specific. It has us thinking of all the ways we can conserve energy in our daily lives. Whether you own or rent your home, there are many ways you can make a positive impact on the environment, and also on your wallet!
Energy Conserving Lighting
Switch out traditional bulbs for LED bulbs. The LED bulbs may be a little more expensive up front, but considering how much longer they last, you won’t be running out to buy new bulbs for quite a while.
If you have Christmas style lights on your patio, you may consider swapping them out for solar powered patio lights. They come in strands like Christmas lights, but will charge with solar power, saving you money on your electric bill.
And of course – This is basic, but easy to forget (especially if you have kids at home!) – turn off lights when you’re not in a room.
Water Conservation
Low flow shower heads will still give you good pressure, but will use up to 75% less water. They are fairly easy to install – remember to take off and replace the stock shower head before you move out if you rent. Only run your dishwasher and clothes washer for full loads, and turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
Electric
The Instant Pot isn’t just a wonderful foodie craze, it can also help lower your electric consumption, as it cooks quickly and efficiently. We know you swiped your mom’s old hairdryer from the 80’s but consider a new, energy efficient model to upgrade – it could use up to 75% less energy than an older model!
