In past blogs we’ve spoken of the new CFL bulbs and how converting your home to them can be cost efficient. But do you know how to dispose of the burned out or broken bulbs? The best way is to recycle them. CFL bulbs contain mercury. Mercury can be released into the soil, water and air when the bulbs are improperly disposed of or incinerated. This is dangerous to our environment. But you can contact your local city or county government for info on hazardous household waste collection events and drop off sites. In addition, many Home Depot and ACE Hardware locations will accept CFL bulbs for recycling as well as IKEA in Tempe and Lighting Resources in Phoenix.
